Israel's Minister of Finance, Dr. Yuval Steinitz opens the Privacy: Generation international conference

"a clash exists between the need to secure privacy and the need for security"

"we believe that in order to achieve integrity we should aspire to maximal transparency, on the other hand, over transparency leaves no room for privacy in a public institution"

Israel's Minister of Finance, Dr. Yuval Steinitz opened the 32nd International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners "Privacy: Generation" held in Jerusalem, Israel.

Minister Steinitz commented on the conference's subject: "privacy is of utmost importance. There is no critical or creative thought without privacy. But privacy clashes with another important value: the need for security. Security reuqiers "Big Brother" style supervision like installing a network of cameras. This infringes privacy substantially. On the one hand, life has no value without privacy, on the other hand-life has no value without life".
