Israel will host the 2010 International Conference of data protection and Privacy commissioners in Jerusalem

The 31th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, was hosted during November 4th-6th 2009 by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) in Madrid.

During the closed session for Commissioners, the Israeli Law, Information and Technology Authority (ILITA) was selected to organize the 32nd International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners in Israel and was accepted as a member in the commissioners conference following its former observer status.

 These decisions are the product of three years of vigorous international activity of ILITA headed by Adv. Yoram Hacohen. ILITA has been active in advancing Israel's position in the law and technology arena with the EC and the OECD.

 Prof. Ya'akov Ne'eman, Minister of Justice: "I congratulate ILITA for this honourable achievement of bringing to Israel an international conference dealing with human rights, especially in these times. The right to privacy is a fundamental constitutional right of utmost importance and ILITA's activity in this area is commendable. I have supported ILITA's initiative to host the conference and I am glad our offer was accepted by the international community."

ILITA's admittance to the data protection and privacy commissioners conference is an acknowledgment of its standing inline with parallel privacy protection authorities in Europe, north America, Australia and the far east, since the admitting process examines the independent framework in which the data protection regulator acts and the level of protection given to the right to privacy in the legal system.

The International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners includes the participation of regulator from around the world, technology experts specializing in data security, and lawyers and accountants who specialize in this field.

Yoram Hacohen, head of ILITA: "The decision that Israel will host the conference is based on the recognition of the international data protection community is giving to ILITA's activity in Israel and in its activity in this field in the EC and OECD Next yer's conference will focus in the leading issues related to data protection, including technological solutions to protecting personal data and the change in the perception of privacy in the young generation with the introduction of new information technology applications".
